Since the birth of Diablo 4 in 2023, the series will regularly launch new seasons, and each new season has an exclusive theme, which not only serves as a “gimmick” to attract new and old players, but also represents the power or items available in that season. In Season 7, the theme is witchcraft power, which may remind you of the theme of vampire power in the past Season 2.
In fact, these two powers are not only similar in name but also in the operating principle. witchcraft power also borrows the strengths of vampire power and is upgraded at the same time to present a better Diablo 4 through Season of Witchcraft. Based on this, we will introduce you to the characteristics of these two powers and their connection.
As the biggest feature of Season 2, all vampiric powers can be simply divided into small and large forms, and can provide you with special abilities through specific skill trees (these abilities are independent of your character class skill tree), thus providing more possibilities for all Diablo 4 classes to build builds.
The types of effects brought by vampiric powers are very rich, mainly including attribute increases, vampiric curses and infections on enemies, and more benefits you want. After unlocking vampiric powers, you can equip up to five at a time, but each power requires a combination of three contract types to be effectively matched with builds. The three contracts are Ferocity, Divinity, and Eternity, which can be found on equipment.
When you complete tasks or explore seasonal events in Season 2, you can get Diablo 4 Gold and seasonal items Potent Blood. Consuming this item allows you to unlock or upgrade one of the three vampiric powers randomly. Although the unlocking process is not difficult, this randomness may prevent you from investing in the vampiric power you want.
All vampire powers are set to be available after Season 2 and remain in the game, providing you with benefits by attaching them to weapons and armor. They are Aspect of Accursed Touch, Boiling Blood Aspect, Undying Aspect, Aspect of Metamorphosis, Aspect of the Moonrise, and Hectic Aspect.
The first and biggest difference between witchcraft powers and vampire powers is that it contains a lot more specific powers, a total of 25, and these witchcraft powers can be divided into 4 schools: Eldritch, Psyche, Growth & Decay, and Lost. The first three schools have 7 witchcraft powers each, and the last one has only 4, but it will be more difficult to obtain.
First, you need to complete the pre-quest Oaths and Debts related to unlocking witchcraft power in the main quest line after entering Season 7 to unlock the three witch altars next to Tree of Whispers (corresponding to the first three witchcraft power schools). Interacting with them can initially unlock the corresponding power, but the fourth school of lost power requires you to farm Forgotten Altars in the dungeon to unlock it. These powers include:
It is worth noting that after the initial unlock, you will also need to increase your reputation in Coven to start using these powers. In addition, if you can obtain Occult gems by completing the seasonal event Headhunts in Season 7, you can further enhance the witch power you have equipped.
Currently, you can equip up to six witchcraft powers in the game, five from the first three witch schools and one from the lost power unlockable through Forgotten Altars. They can be further summarized as follows:
As you can see, witchcraft powers are similar to vampire powers in many ways, such as the benefits they provide and their perfect synergy with builds. But what is really important is that, as a latecomer, witchcraft has fully absorbed the defects of vampire power in obtaining it, and simplified the way to obtain it so that you can more easily craft your Season 7 builds around witchcraft.
In this regard, although Diablo 4 Season 2 was well received because of vampire power, witchcraft powers, which has been simplified and divided by schools to make it more intuitive, is likely to surpass vampire power in the future and become the best seasonal mechanism of Diablo 4.
From another perspective, whether it is the retention of 6 aspects or the reference by the witchcraft powers, it shows that some abilities are worth keeping in Diablo 4 even after the end of some seasons. This is not only a commemoration of past successes but also the best source of inspiration for game developers to continue to develop new season mechanisms.
